Marie Betty (Burkhart) Houp, 96 formerly of Birdsboro, PA, died on Monday, September 18, 2023, at The Heritage of Green Hills Care Center in Cumru Twp., Berks Co., PA. Born March 28, 1927 in Reading, PA, she was the daughter of the late James Burkhart and the late Mary (Breitenstein) Burkhart. She was the widow of Richard Francis Houp.
She retired from CNA. Prior to that she was employed by American Casualty. Marie was a member of the former Alice Focht Memorial United Methodist Church, AAA for 41 years, 50 Plus Club of Tulpehocken, Wide Awake Club, Volunteer for 20 years for Meals on Wheels. She enjoyed Pinocle, Bingo, Casinos, and the Phillies.
Surviving are son, James R. Houp of Ventura, CA, daughters, Jeanne M. wife of Terry Hafer of Douglassville, PA and Jo Ann widow of Kerry Gottschall of Reading, PA, sister, Alice V. widow of Ronald L. Herbein of Exeter Twp., Berks Co., PA; 3 grandchildren, Cory Nathaniel husband of Kathryn Hafer, Casey Jean wife of Ryan Tantala, Jonathan Lee husband of Megan Gottschall; 3 great grandchildren, Jenny Grace Hafer, Liam Tucker Hafer, Zoey May Hafer and a baby girl Tantala on the way.
She was predeceased by sister, Dorothy Henry.
Graveside Servies and Interment will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery, Amityville, PA on September 25, 2023 at 11:30 AM, please wear tie dye or bright colors or Phillies attire to the service.
