John Konowal Jr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away at the age of 95. John was born in Stowe, PA, he was the son of the late John, Sr. and Mary (Pipchick) Konowal. He was the widower of Betty J. (Salvati) Konowal.
John served in the Navy Seabees, building airports in Tsingtao, China and the Manila, Philippines. After his service, he worked at Firestone Tire and Rubber for 30 years in Pottstown, PA. In his spare time, John owned and operated his own tile and linoleum business for 10 years. In the late 60’s John was also a dedicated member of the Exeter Township auxiliary police department for eight years.
John had a passion for the outdoors, and he was very active. He loved hiking and completed three 50-mile hikes on the Appalachian Trail. He and his family moved to Green Tree Acres in Exeter Twp. in 1956, where they lived for almost 60 years. In his later years, John resided in Berks Leisure Living in Leesport, PA.
John had many interests, including archery, drawing, and painting. He was also an avid bowler for many years. He was a member of the Pottstown Knights of Columbus and St. Catherine’s church in Mount Penn.
He is survived by his 2 children: Gregory Konowal, husband of Debra and Marsha McGowan, wife of Sean; sister: Helen Krawchuck; 4 grandchildren: Ryan and Peter McGowan and Natalie and Nicholas Konowal; and 2 great grandchildren: Jacob and Margot McGowan. John will be deeply missed by all who knew him and his memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Dengler Funeral Home, Inc. 144 N. Spruce St. Birdsboro, PA 19508 on Friday, January 27, 2023 at 11:00AM. There will be a visitation from 10:30am-11:00am prior to the service. Burial will be in Immaculate Conception RC Church Cemetery.
