Joan L. (Pickles) Interrante

Joan L. (Pickles) Interrante, 67, of Douglassville, passed away at her home on January 21, 2022. Born in Norristown, she was the daughter of the late Albert Newell Pickles, Jr., and Virginia (Crocker) Pickles. She was the widow of Richard M. Interrante.

A 1972 graduate of Bishop Kenrick High School, Norristown, Joan earned her diploma in nursing from the Montgomery Hospital School of Nursing. She worked as a registered nurse for 31 years, in Critical Care and Occupational Health for Montgomery Hospital from 1975 to 1998 and Reading Hospital from 1998 to 2006. She was a member of St. Paul’s UCC, Douglassville.

Joan was passionate about nursing, having decided at a very young age that she would be a nurse. She was an enthusiastic student, often sharing what she’d learned in nursing school at the family dinner table. She maintained that enthusiasm throughout her career as a compassionate professional with equal parts skill and empathy. Countless patients benefited from her care.

Joan added a spark of fun at every family gathering, and she loved to travel, particularly to the beach. She and Rich, her high school sweetheart, always looked forward to their vacations in Saint Martin. Joan enjoyed cultivating roses, crewel work, and reading.

Joan is survived by three sisters: Virginia Pickles, Limerick, Carol Estes, Pottstown, Lois Pettigrew (George), Perkiomenville; one brother: Albert N. Pickles, III, Worcester; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother: Paul H. Pickles. Joan is also survived by her brother-in-law and sister-in-law Anthony T. Interrante, Jr., and Patricia Interrante, Green Lane, as well as her sweetheart cockapoo, Peaches.

Visitation will take place on Saturday, February 5, 2022, from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at St. Paul’s UCC, 1979 Weavertown Road, Douglassville. Service will take place immediately after visitation, and burial in the church cemetery will follow.
