James R. Downie, 93, of Douglassville, Union Twp., PA passed away on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his family. Born in Paisley, Scotland, in the UK, he was the son of the late George and Jean (Raeside) Downie. He was the husband of Gillian M. (Sharp) Downie.
James worked as a CPA and Director of Buisness Solutuions for ICI Americas in Wilmington, DE. He was a member of St Paul’s Episcopal Church in Oaks, PA where he was very active. He enjoyed listening to classical music, reading, and history. He served as a Board Member for Visiting Nurses of Chester Co and also President of The Reef Association on St. Croix in the US Virgin Islands. He was very giving in his time to various charities.
Surviving James, along with his wife, Gillian, are: 1 son: Alastair Downie, husband of Maryjean of White Bear Lake, MN; 1 daughter: Celia Bowman, wife of Gregory of Douglassville, PA; and 4 grandchildren: Ian Bowman, husband of Evelyn, Jessica Palkert, wife of Nate, Kiefer Downie, and Gina Peterson, wife of Austin.
A Memorial Service will be held on February 10th at 11:00 AM at St Paul’s Episcopal Church, 126 Black Rock Rd. Oaks, PA 19465. A visitation will be held from 10:00AM-11:00AM at the church before the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Berks Encore. Dengler Funeral Home, Inc. Birdsboro, PA is in charge of arrangements.
