Dennis M. McKernan, 78, of Birdsboro, PA passed away on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at the Reading Hospital. Born in Norristown, PA, he was the son of the late Paul and Margaret (Hems) McKernan. He was the husband of Susan E. (Lindenmuth) McKernan.
Denny spent most of his life as a Special Education Teacher, teaching at Owen J. Roberts School District, Kid’s Peace, Manito, and Berks Co. Learning Academy. He was inducted into the Upper Merion HS Sports Hall of Fame, Kutztown University Sports Hall of Fame, and PA Sports Hall of Fame, Montgomery Co. Chapter. He played baseball in the Minor Leagues for the Kansas City A’s. In his free time he enjoyed fishing and golfing.
Surviving Denny, along with his wife, Susan, are: 1 son: Christopher McKernan, fiancé of Melissa Miller of Mt. Penn; 1 step-son: Joseph Mumma, Jr. husband of Kristina of Bucktown, PA; 2 grandchildren: Liz and Adam Mumma; and his dogs: Maddie and Abby.
He was predeceased by his son: Jamieson M. McKernan; step-son: Adam Mumma; and brothers: Paul and George McKernan.
A public viewing will be held on Sunday, January 14, 2024 from 2:00pm-4:00pm at the Dengler Funeral Home, Inc. 144 N. Spruce St. Birdsboro, PA 19508. An additional viewing for family & close friends will be held on Monday, January 15, 2024 from 10:00am-10:30am followed by a Funeral Service at 10:30am at the funeral home. Burial will be in Birdsboro Cemetery.
