Elwood “Woody” D. Moyer

Elwood “Woody” D. Moyer, 74, of Reading, PA, passed away on Wednesday, March 15, 2023, at home. Born in Pottstown, PA, he was the son of late John and Emma (Moyer) Geunes.

Woody graduated from Twin Valley HS, Class of ’66 and attended Spring Garden Institute Automotive Training Center. He then enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. and served our country in the Vietnam War and was a Purple Heart recipient. He retired as an Auto Mechanic, last working for C.E. Levan Excavating.

He was a lifetime member of the NRA and VFW Post 6150 and a former member of the Flying Dutchmen Ski Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, RVing, cars, and drag racing his ’57 Chevy “Dingo” at The Grove. He also loved hanging at the river with his extended family in the summer and getting into trouble with his Plow Church buddies in his younger years.

Surviving Woody, is his son: Kyle P. Moyer of Wyomissing, PA; daughter: Renée A. Moyer, significant other Michael W. Mervine of Reading, PA; 3 half-brothers: Ronald, Larry, and Barry Geunes; ex-wife: Colleen (McCoy) Oliviero; and his nieces and nephews.

A Graveside service will be held on Friday, June 23, 2023 at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, 830 Highland Rd. Newtown, PA 18940 at 1:30PM. Departure from Dengler Funeral Home, Inc. 144 N. Spruce St. Birdsboro, PA 19508 will be 11:30AM. If driving separately, please plan to arrive at the cemetery at 1:00PM.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday following the graveside service at 4:00PM at Sleepy Hollow Athletic Club, 482 Westley Rd. Mohnton, PA 19540.
