Vernon L. “Sappy” Kulp, Jr., 94 of Birdsboro, PA passed away on Saturday, July 15, 2017, in the comfort of his home.
Born on May 10, 1923 in Birdsboro he was the son of late Vernon L. Kulp, Sr and the late Ellen A. (Shirey) Kulp. He was the widower of Elizabeth R. (Petrillo) Kulp.
Vernon was employed as a machinist and an inspector for the former Birdsboro Corp. retiring in 1985. He was a member of the American Legion #626, VFW Post 411, Birdsboro-Union Fire Co., and the Birdsboro Sportsmen’s Club.
Vernon served in the US Army, as a machine-gun operator in 134th Infantry, Company D on the front lines in Europe in WWII. He saw action in the Battle of the Bulge, where he was wounded and taken prisoner by the Germans. He received a Bronze Star Medal and a Purple Heart for his actions in WWII.
Surviving Vernon are 1 son: Vernon L. Kulp, III of Birdsboro, PA; 2 daughters: Donna M. Harner, wife of Joseph of Douglassville, PA and Lisa A. Kulp, wife of Jorge A. Canevari of Wheat Ridge, CO; 4 grandchildren: Kelly A. Kulp, Scott V. Kulp, Brian J. Harner, and Jodi L. Moore; and 3 great grandchildren: Brianna, Justin, and Priya.
Vernon is predeceased by 4 sisters: Laraine Walley, LaRue Clouser, Melba Hahn, and Florence Deysher.
A viewing will be held at Dengler Funeral Home, Inc., 144 North Spruce St., Birdsboro, PA on Wedneday, July 19, 2017, from 9:00AM – 11:00 AM, with the funeral service to follow at 11:00AM. Burial will be in Birdsboro Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Birdsboro – Union Fire Dept., 214 W. 1st St. Birdsboro, PA 19508.
