James Allen Minnich Jr., 83, of Bethel, Vermont, went to meet his Lord on Thursday, August 17, 2023 at the Reading Hospital in Reading, Pa. He was born in Riverside Township, New Jersey on February 2, 1940, the son of the late James Allen Minnich, Sr. and the late Marian (Hudson) Minnich.
James grew up as a hard-working farm boy, helping to raise chickens and sheep in Southeastern Pa. There he developed an undying love for Border Collies. Jim graduated from Ursinus College majoring in Political Science and was an active member of the football team while there. His career consisted of working a few years with NSA and many years with Unisys as a computer analyst.
Jim was a phenomenal story teller. He also liked to write about his life experiences and childhood adventures. Cooking was one of his favorite things to do. He was an avid reader of history and study of the Bible too. He enjoyed very much all of the singing of the Irishman Daniel O’Donnell. He and Judy took a very enjoyable trip to Ireland in 2014. They also traveled much of Idaho and Montana together, spending 2 ½ years living in Whitefish, Montana. There they belonged to a singing group called “The Calamity Singers”, singing for nursing home residents and veterans. Never would one be able to find a man more kind, caring, generous, and unselfish than Jim was.
Surviving James, along with his beloved wife Judith (Judy), are two daughters; Helen Ballew and Sara Boehme, and one step-daughter Paula Jackson. He also has three grandsons and several step grandchildren. He was predeceased by his step-daughter Brenda Lee Crawford and a step-son Richard Dale Bowers in 2016.
