Helen E. (Miller) Heimel, 90, of Douglassville, Union Twp., PA, passed away on Friday, March 24, 2023, in the comfort of her home, surrounded by her family. Born in Amity Twp., PA, she was the daughter of late George S. and Barbara (Kutz) Miller. She was the widow of Kenneth E. Heimel. Helen graduated Valedictorian of Amity HS, Class of 1950 and made the Dean’s List all 4 years while at Kutztown State College. She spent her career in education as a math teacher for Annville-Cleona, Owen J. Roberts, and Daniel Boone School Districts. She was in charge of Try High Y at Annville-Cleona, teacher of the year at Daniel Boone in ’93-’94, and named “Whose Who” among American Teachers 4 times. Helen was even offered a Rhodes Scholarship to attend Oxford University, England, but had to decline. She was a member of The Order of Eastern Star, Bird Chapter, and St. Paul’s UCC Amityville for 75+ years. In her free time, she was an avid reader, loved gardening, playing BINGO, cooking, and entertaining.
Surviving Helen is her son: Andrew K. Heimel of Douglassville, PA; daughter: Jeanette M. Randall, wife of Jeff Randall of Allentown, PA; and 2 sister-in-laws: Patricia Dietrich of Elizabethtown, PA and Linda Ogden of Kempton, PA.
She was predeceased by her brothers: Harry and Winfield Miller.
A funeral service will be on Friday, March 31, 2023 at 11:00AM at St. Paul’s UCC, 1979 Weavertown Rd. Douglassville, PA 19518. A viewing will be held from 10:00AM-11:00AM at the church on Friday, prior to the service. Burial will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery.
