Gerald V. Rohrbach, 89, of Douglassville, PA passed away on Friday, October 5, 2018, at the Reading Hospital & Medical Center. Born in Weavertown, Amity Twp., PA, he was the son of the late Floyd C. Rohrbach, Sr. and Verna V. (Mauger) Rohrbach. He was the loving husband of Jeane (Schurr) Rohrbach, and a loving father to his children.
Gerald was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Douglassville, PA. He graduated from Amity High School in 1948 and served in the US Marine Corps., during the Korean War. Gerald was employed as a master craftsman and foreman for Kutz Builders Inc. for 61 years and built custom homes throughout southeastern PA. Gerald was a founding member of the Daniel Boone Optimist Club. He loved his gardens, birdwatching, and building birdhouses. In his younger years, he played basketball for the Amity A.C. Aces and helped his team go undefeated that won the Berks Rec Basketball League Title in 1948-49. In 1954, he played for the Amity A.C. Aces that won the YMCA Berks Co. Basketball Tournament.
Gerald was an instructor for Berks County Vocational Technical classes in woodworking. Later on, he taught children in public school how to build birdhouses. His passion for building and creating spanned his lifetime.
Surviving Gerald, along with his wife, are, 1 son: Jeffrey A. Rohrbach, husband of Ann B. of Annapolis, MD; and 1 daughter: Kathy R. Farenish, wife of John M. of Fairfax Station, VA. He was also survived by 3 grandchildren: Kathryn, Kyle, and Alexander.
Gerald was predeceased by 1 brother: Floyd C. Rohrbach, Jr., and 1 sister: Mildred J. Shinn.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, October 20, 2018, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 548 Old Swede Rd., Douglassville, PA 19518 from 9:30am – 10:45am. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00AM following the visitation at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, at the above address.
