William V. Oxenford

 William V. Oxenford, 90, a life-long resident of Amity Township, passed away at his current residence at Amity Place, Douglassville on June 29, 2024. He was married for 67 years to his wife Anita (Maurey), who passed away on February 9, 2024.

Billy was predeceased by his parents Arthur and Sarah (Botts) Oxenford, Sr. and four brothers Arthur (“Junior”), Alfred, Donald (“Chubby”) and Robert.

He is survived by his daughter, Kathy McNeely, Douglassville and his son, W. Scott Oxenford married to Jody Stout, Buckeye, AZ, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Bill enlisted in the Navy in 1951 and served 4 years, being honorably discharged in 1954 with the rank of Petty Officer First Class with completion of specialized training as Pipe Fitter Classes 1, 2 and 3. He was in the Navy Reserve until 1959. He served most of his time on the USS Mercury (AKS-20) but also the

USS Vulcan (AR-5).

He was a hard and conscientious worker employed by Philco, Reading Crane & Hoist, Kawecki Berylco, Firestone Tire & Rubber, Occidental Chemical and Occidental Petro. He had a business as an auto repairman for a time and between long-term jobs worked at Kiwi and Merritt’s Antiques. His last position was as a courier for the Daniel Boone Area School District.

He was a life member of the Amity Fire Co., where in earlier years was a volunteer fire fighter and later served as a Trustee. He also belonged to Monarch Fire Co., Amity Township Athletic Club, Birdsboro Sportsman’s Club and URWA- AFL-CIO Retirement Club.

A Celebration of Life will be held to honor Anita and Billy on Saturday August 3, 2024, 11:30 AM in the fellowship hall at St. Paul’s UCC Church, 1979 Weavertown Road, Douglassville 19518. Casual attire is acceptable, and family and friends are welcome.  Interment will be private at St. Paul’s UCC Cemetery, Amityville.
