Walter “Buddy” F. Harris, Jr., 73 of Philadelphia, PA peacefully passed away Saturday, November 5, 2022 at Penn Medicine Rittenhouse in Philadelphia. Buddy was born in Philadelphia and was the son of the late Walter “Bucky” and Lorraine (Morrow) Harris. He was the husband of Cathy A. (Capone) Harris.
Buddy graduated from Roxborough High School and attended college at Philadelphia Textile. He was the owner of the former Cannon’s Cold Cuts in Roxborough. Buddy had multiple athletic achievements. He was inducted into the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame, winner of the Philadelphia High School Basketball Markward Club Award, and a member of the former Philadelphia Textile College Sports Hall of Fame. He was an avid sports fan, loved taking walks, hyped winter weather forecasts, never missed the game show, Jeopardy and had an incredible mind for trivia such as 60’s music or sports stats.
Buddy is survived by his loving wife, Cathy and his 4 sons: Walter F. Harris, III (Katrina), Brent Harris (Tara), Bradley Harris (Lauren), Jonathan Harris (Stephanie); daughter: Ashley Murray (Michael); sister: Marianne Harrison (Keith); and 6 grandchildren: Michael, Kyle, Will, Daniel, Joan, and Laurie; as well as cousins, nephews and nieces.
He is predeceased by his brother: Billy Harris.
To honor Buddy’s life, a Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 12, 2022 at 11:00 AM at East Falls Presbyterian Church, 3800 Vaux St. Philadelphia, PA 19129. A visitation to greet Buddy’s family and friends will be 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM on Saturday morning at the church, prior to the service.
