Shirley A. (McGowan) DeLong


August 11, 1934 – July 25, 2021

It is with great sadness that the family of Shirley Ann (McGowan) DeLong, age 86, announce her passing on July 25, 2021.  She was surrounded by family in the comfort of her home in Leesburg, FL.

Born in Geigertown, PA she was the daughter of the late John H. and Thelma M. (Pfeffer) McGowan.

Beloved wife of Robert T. DeLong, and loving mother of Mark D. DeLong, husband of Bernadette of Morgantown, PA, Chris A. DeLong of Charlotte, NC and Jamie L. Wetzelberger, wife of Frederick of Fenwick Island, DE.  Cherished grandmother to Andrew, husband of Angelina, and Craig DeLong, and Fred III, husband of Courtney, Victoria and Caroline Wetzelberger.  Great grandmother to PalmaRosa DeLong.

She was predeceased by her sister, Gladys Emerick.

Shirley worked for 18 years as a teacher’s aide in the Twin Valley School District and retired in 1990.  She was an active member of the St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Geigertown, PA.

In 2000 she and Bob began wintering and moved full time to Leesburg, FL in 2013 where they maintained an active lifestyle and made many friends and memories together in their Molokai neighborhood.  Shirley enjoyed reading, shopping, daily walks and traveling.

Her greatest joy was spending time with family and friends.

A visitation will take place to greet family and friends from 10:30 am-11:00 am  will be held on Saturday, August 14, 2021 at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 1136 Geigertown Rd. Birdsboro, PA 19508. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday after the visitation at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, PO Box 6 Geigertown, PA 19523.
