John Stanley Wawrzonek

John Stanley Wawrzonek, 94, of Robeson Twp., Berks Co., PA, died on Friday, July 2, 2021, at home in the care of his family.

Born November 28, 1926 in Reading, PA, he was the son of the late Michael Wawrzonek, Sr. and the late Dorothy (Pudlo) Wawrzonek. He was the loving husband of the late Bertha V. “Peggy” (Weidner) Wawrzonek.

He retired from Occidental Chemical in 1989. Previously employed by Firestone Tire & Rubber Co. and Orr & Sembower.

He served as a Fireman 1st Class in the Navy from 1944 until 1946 aboard the USS Bray Destroyer Escort. He was a Veteran of World War II.

John was an avid hunter and fisherman, and loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed doing crossword puzzles in his later years, and keeping up with extended family and friends via Facebook, or as he called it “the Book.” Everyone will surely miss his witty comments on their posts.

He was a member of St. Stephen’s PNC Church.

Surviving are son, Ricky A. husband of Terry Wawrzonek of Flying Hills, PA; daughters, Cheryl A. wife of Darryl Weinhold of Reading, PA; and JoAnn M. wife of Gregory Sullivan of Robeson Twp., PA; 7 Grandchildren, Jennifer wife of Andrew Sachetti of Wayland, MA; Jeremy husband of Montse Wawrzonek of Mohnton, PA; Julia wife of Dennis Bierkamp of Hamburg, PA; Jason husband of Samantha Wawrzonek of Boyertown, PA; Dana wife of Michael Ashe of Douglassville, PA; Alison fiancée of Tyler Swoyer of Shillington, PA; and Kathryn Sabulsky of Somerset, NJ; 10 Great-Grandchildren, Elena and Ryan Sachetti of Wayland, MA; Alekzander and Isabella Wawrzonek of Mohnton, PA; Dennis, Jackson and Rose Bierkamp of Hamburg, PA; Bennett and Nolan Wawrzonek of Boyertown, PA; and Colin Ashe of Douglassville, PA; 6 Step-Grandchildren, Shawn Styer, husband of Linda; Dustin Styer, husband of Bethany; Brandon Sullivan; Ryan Sullivan, husband of Jaimie; Cameron Sullivan, companion of Megan Canady; and Taylor Sullivan, fiancée of Kyler Giem; and 3 Step-Great Grandchildren, Anna and Laura Styer, and Makenzie Sullivan.

He was predeceased by brothers, George Wawrzonek, Walter Wawrzonek and Michael Wawrzonek, Jr., and sisters, Mary Waldman, Josephine Gancar and Anne Soltis.

A Mass will be at 1:30 PM on Monday, July 12, 2021 at St. Stephen’s PNC Church, 20 St. Stephen’s Lane, Reading, PA 19607 with the Very Rev. Donald E. Wunderlich officiating. Interment will be in St. Stephen’s Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 11, 2021 from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM, and Monday, July 12, 2021 from 12 Noon to 12:30 PM, at the Dengler Funeral Home, 144 N. Spruce Street, Birdsboro, PA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to St. Stephen’s PNC Church Building Fund, 20 St. Stephen’s Lane, Reading, PA 19607.
