Jewel Emilie Albright, 77, of Exeter Township, PA, passed away on June 18, 2023. She was born on November 9, 1945, in Jersey City, NJ, to the late parents, Edward and Viola Grosscup, and grew up in Hinsdale, IL and Sewickley, PA. Jewel completed her education at Quaker Valley High School and Hillsdale College, where she earned her BFA in Arts History.
She was a loving and devoted wife to her husband Thomas Albright and will be remembered for her bright blue eyes, love of life, expression of beauty, and creativity in her personal expression. Her children remember her as a caring person, focused on bringing out the best in each of them.
Jewel was a kind and compassionate person who found joy in helping others. She was an active member of the Girl Scouts and served as both a scout and troop leader, encouraging girls to think big and explore their options. Her career as a Lead Vision Therapist at Wyomissing Optometric Center allowed her to help countless people of all ages to improve their quality of life. Jewel was also an active supporter of Birdsboro and Exeter libraries, participant and leader of the Women’s Social Club of Berks County and member of the Rotary Club of Birdsboro, where she and her husband Tom served as members and past presidents. She made a significant impact on people throughout her life and community and made many friends throughout the Berks County area through her involvement.
Jewel is survived by her husband, Thomas Albright, her daughter, Gretchen Wendtland, her son, Douglas Albright, her grandchildren, Cody Wendland, Ailey Albright, Maggie Wendtland, and Thomas Elliott Albright, and her sisters, Virginia Campion and Lois Tomlin.
Strong in her faith and spirituality throughout her life, Jewel was a member of the former Unity of Reading, where she worshipped. In her free time, Jewel enjoyed playing contact bridge, gardening, golfing, and painting.
Memorial services for Jewel will be held at Reading City Church, 644 Penn Avenue, West Reading, PA on Tuesday, June 27, 2023 at 10:30 AM with light refreshments to follow at the church.
In lieu of flowers, charitable donations in Jewel’s name can be made to the Animal Rescue League of Berks County at berksarl.org/berksdonates or 58 Kennel Road, Birdsboro, PA 19508 where she had adopted several of her beloved cats.
