Ilse H. (Bismarck) Lafferty

Ilse H. (Bismarck) Lafferty, 80, of Enola, PA passed away on Sunday, May 26, 2024 at the West Shore Hospital in Mechanicsburg, PA. Born in Jersey City, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Otto F. and Anita M. (Stockfish) Bismarck. She was the wife of Michael J. Lafferty.

Ilse worked as a hairdresser in NJ, and was a member of St. Matthews Evangelical Lutheran Church where she also taught Sunday School in Hoboken, NJ, until she moved to PA in 1970. She worked for Bachman’s Pretzels and later worked for K-Mart in Exeter Township for 20 years. After moving to Waynesville, NC in 2005 she worked as a custodian at North Canton Elementary for the Haywood County School District for 10 years.

She loved spending time with her grandchildren: Cayla and Liam, enjoyed the outdoors, especially hiking and fishing with Mike. She enjoyed yard-sale shopping, sightseeing, reading mysteries, and watching movies.

Surviving Ilse, along with her husband Mike is daughter:  Heidi C. Hicks, wife of Will of Camp Hill, PA; 2 brothers: Horst Bismarck of Mineral, VA and Billy Bismarck of Freehold, NJ; 2 sisters-in-law: Annette and Anneliese Bismarck; and 2 grandchildren: Cayla and Liam Hicks.

She was predeceased by her brothers: Otto and Fred Bismarck.

A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, June 1, 2024 at 10:30AM at the Dengler Funeral Home, Inc. 144 N. Spruce St. Birdsboro, PA 19508. A viewing will be from 9:30AM-10:30AM at the funeral home, prior to the service. The burial will be in Birdsboro Cemetery, immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital
