Carolyn N. Baseley, 94, of Douglassville, widow of William D. Baseley, died on Tuesday, August 17, 2021. Born in Middletown NY, she was the daughter of the late William A. And Mary H. Nearing. Carolyn and Bill married in 1949 and celebrated 71 years of marriage, until Bill’s passing in 2020.
Carolyn is survived by her daughter Sharon Madden and son W. Davis “Dave” Baseley; grandchildren Jeffrey Baseley, Erin Forshey, Heather Ruggiero, and Devon Madden; and great-grandchildren Abigail, Elizabeth, Corinna, Elliana, Samuel, Maggie Lyn, Amalia, Quinn, and Evie. She was predeceased by her husband and sisters Kathleen Quick and Janice Stetzler.
Carolyn was a 1945 graduate of Milford (PA) High School. She graduated from East Stroudsburg State Teachers College in 1949 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. She taught elementary grades at the Pine Forge and Colebrookdale schools in the Boyertown School District for over 30 years, retiring in 1991.
Upon retiring, Carolyn and her husband embarked on traveling around the US in recreational vehicles. They traveled off and on for 18 years, their wheels rolling through 49 states and much of Canada. They also enjoyed several trips abroad. Carolyn also participated in Relay For Life events, volunteered for The Red Cross, and delivered Meals-on-Wheels. She enjoyed playing golf and doing crafts. She had a reputation as a fantastic cookie baker! She and her husband were longtime members of Shenkel UCC.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Friday, August 27, 2021 at Shenkel United Church of Christ, 1580 Shenkel Rd. Pottstown, PA 19465 (Please bring a mask). Interment will take place prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Shenkel UCC or the American Cancer Society.
