Joseph D. Smith, 73 of Brecknock Twp., Berks Co., PA passed away on November 18, 2018 at the Reading Hospital – Tower Health in West Reading, PA. Born in Birdsboro, PA, he was the son of the late George L. Smith and the late Elizabeth J. (Lynch) Smith. He was the husband of Dorothy J. (King) Smith.
Joseph worked as a mechanic for Met-Ed. After his retirement in 2002, he taught CDL. He was a member of Allegheny Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mohnton, PA. Joseph enjoyed hunting and fishing, loved dirt track racing, and was an avid storyteller.
Surviving are along with his wife are his son: Joseph L. husband of Robyn Smith of Mohnton, PA, his daughter; Teresa M. Gibson of Annapolis, MD., also survived by his brother: James E. Smith of Reading, PA, and a sister; Mary Metzker of Emmaus, PA, 3 grandchildren; Trevor Gibson, Nichole Gibson, and Karleigh Gibson, and many nieces and nephews.
Joseph was predeceased by 2 brothers; George and William Smith and 2 sisters; Eleanor Painter and Kathleen Reppert.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, November 23, 2018 at 12:30 PM at Allegheny Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1327 Alleghenyville Road, Mohnton, PA. A viewing will be held from 11:00AM to 12:30PM before the service at the church.

Inurnment will be at Allegheny Evangelical Lutheran Church Memorial Garden.
