Anna Borges (Mello) Twigley, 83 of Amity Twp., Berks Co., PA, formerly of Westerly, R.I., passed away peacefully on Friday, April 13, 2018, at Sacred Heart Villa in Reading, PA.
Born July 26, 1934 in Westerly, Rhode Island, she was the beloved daughter of the late Antone Mello and the late Mary (Medeiros) Mello. She was the widow of John L. Toscano and Robert E. Twigley.
She will be greatly missed by surviving son, William D. Toscano, and his wife Allison Hewett of Glens Falls, NY; daughter, Rosemary Toscano Wisniewski, and her husband John, of Douglassville, PA; grandchildren Brooks, Jack, Anna, Theresa, Nicole; and great grandchildren Abigail and Alexander.
She was predeceased by her brother, Edmund Mello, whom she loved dearly.
Anna was employed by the Westerly Hospital as Home Care Coordinator before retiring in 1995. Previously she worked as a registered nurse for the hospital and for the Visiting Nurses Association. Following retirement, she worked at Stop & Shop Grocery Store, Westerly, RI, and Redner’s Markets, Inc., Douglassville, PA.
As an active member of the Westerly community, Anna was a member and past president of the Westerly Nurses’ Club, a long-time member of Westerly Yacht Club, and a choir member at St. Pius X Church. While living in Douglassville, Anna was a member of Immaculate Conception RC Church, the church’s choir, the Inspiring Attituders Chapter of the Red Hat Society, and the Birdsboro Senior Center.
Anna was a 1952 graduate of Westerly Senior High School, and also graduated from the St. Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing, Providence, RI.
The family will receive friends from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM on Tuesday, April 17, 2018, at Immaculate Conception R C Church, 905 Chestnut Street, Douglassville (Union Twp.), PA with a Mass of Christian burial to follow at 10:30 AM.
The service in Rhode Island will be held at Buckler-Johnston Funeral Home, 121 Main Street, Westerly, RI on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at 11:00a.m.with a viewing from 9:00a.m. to 11:00a.m.
Interment will be in St. Sebastian Cemetery, Westerly, R.I.
